Welcome to Homeopathy!

Part 1 begins with an invitation to consider such distinctions as medicine, healing and the vital force, in other words, to challenge the student’s ideas about what we ordinarily think of as medicine. Next, we will investigate homeopathy’s claim to be a modality of medicine, that is, a self-contained and uniquely characteristic healing technology. In the process we will examine the vitalistic roots of homeopathy.

Chapter 2 deals with the modus operandi of the homeopathic physician, how the the homeopath takes a case, analyses the data obtained, and decides what has to be done. It also deals with finding the correct remedy, determining the correct potency to apply to it, and assessing the results of the prescription.

Next, we will look at the nature of homeopathic medicines, as homeopathy has become identified by both its practitioners and its patients as a branch of pharmacotherapeutics.

Chapter 4 deals with homeopathic pharmacology. The philosophical and historical reasons why the homeopathic Materia Medica is the centrepiece of homeopathy will become clear. We will also look at the modes of action and dispensing of homeopathic medicines.

Chapter 5 covers setting the potency of the medicine and posology (dosage).

Chapter 6 raises questions concerning the nature of disease. The homeopathic theory of disease may seem at first to be an intellectual burden but it will prove to be an indispensable tool for the smooth application of the technology.

Chapter 7 gives an explanation of the contentious matter of constitution and diathesis.

In Chapter 8 we consider the various applications of homeopathic medicines.
