29 January 2013: The Cartographer shortlisted for an Indie Award


The Cartographer has now been shortlisted for the Australian Independent Book Sellers Awards 2012 in the category of Debut Fiction. The category winners and the overall winner of Book of the Year will be announced on Monday 25 March 2013. Details can be found at:

14 January 2013: The Cartographer longlisted for Commonwealth Book Prize


The Cartographer has now been longlisted for the Commonwealth Book Prize for 2013. I am now officially more famous than The Doors (Sorry, Jim). You can follow its progress at.

The short list is to be announced in April.


1 December 2012: Announcing The Cartographer (2nd Ed)!

The Cartographer has now gone into its second edition, which means it has now outsold Great Expectations, the Kama Sutra and the Epistle of St Paul to the Ephesians (killer text, killer), all rolled into one. 

1 November 2012: Cecil Hills High embraces The Cartographer 

I visited Cecil Hill High School, where the senior kids are reading The Cartographer. It was terrific. Hopefully, a lot more schools will get into the book. 


31 July 2012: The Cartographer takes out Neddy

1 July 2012: The Cartographer short-listed for Neddy

The Cartographer has now been short-listed for the Ned Kelly Award as Best New Fiction. Winners to be announced on 29 June. NOW I'm excited!

16 June 2012: I visit the Wheeler Centre

I will be speaking at the Wheeler Centre for Writers in Melbourne at 6.15 on their Debut Writers Monday. There will be food and wine, yummy authors and books for sale. 

May: The Cartographer optioned by movie company

I have signed a contract with South Pacific Pictures, who wish to turn The Cartographer into a movie! This has been just one of the many great rewards that have come out of the book, and the most unexpected. I always imagined it as a movie, but that's a word that novelists dare not utter, lest they scare the fish. 

April: The Cartographer longlisted for Neddy
