The Cartographer takes out Neddy

The Cartographer has taken out the Ned Kelly Award for 2012 in the category of Best First Fiction. I went down to Melbourne and had a great night at the presentations. Thanks to everyone involved, especially Peter Lawrance, the organiser of the award and head of the Crime Writers' Association. Big thanks to my wonderful agent Lyn Tranter and all at ALM, my incredible team at HarperCollins, especially my publisher, Jo Butler, after whom superheroes name islands, my genius editor Amanda O'Connell, my publicist Jane Finemore, who does everything else. Thanks to Pete Lawrance and his shady accomplices - my Ned is glowering at me as I write. Long story short: it was a great night. Also, I have received the following message from the Queen:

"Well done you. I have elevated you to the peerage and you will henceforth be known as the Orange and Turquoise Baron, or, if you prefer, the Baron of Bullshit. Btw, who the hell is Ned Kelly?”

It came as a surprise, as I didn't know the Queen could even read.
